The People of Indie Undyed
Now that you’ve read a little about Indie Undyed, I’d like to tell you a little more about me.
I am Christa, in addition to being the founder of Indie Undyed and I am also the dyer behind Nerd Girl Yarns. I’ve been a fiber artist since 2003, and like fiber arts tend to do, it sucked me right in. Before long I was learning to spin my own yarn in addition to knitting and crocheting, and then dyeing. Every aspect of fiber intrigues me and I feel like I still learn something new every day. I am really excited to be bringing an undyed yarn & fiber lineup to hand dyers. I’ve been plotting this for many turns around the sun so to be making it a reality is really exciting to me, there is just something special about a blank canvas!
I know it may seem a little odd at first sourcing natural yarns from another indie dyer, as dyers we tend to try to keep our yarn sources close to our chest. I’ve thought about this too, but there are only so many mills in the world making so many different yarns. Our customers come to us expecting high quality yarns but more importantly, they come to us for our colors. As artists our work is unique. Some dyers specialize in gradients, self-striping, semi-solids, or space dyed. Each of those dyers have their own recipes, dye strengths, preferred dyes, inspiration, and so on.
I want to help you source great yarns and fibers. I want our community to thrive, I want dyers to succeed, and I want to see your customers making beautiful projects with your art. There is very little that gives me more joy than seeing a finished item made with hand dyed yarn.
When I started Nerd Girl Yarns a great community of crafters grew around it. The NGY community has grown beyond my wildest dreams - they help each other, cheer for one another, and share their fiber and non-fiber interests. Many have had meetups and gotten to know one another offline as well as online. I hope to build a community within Indie Undyed as well, a maker community. I hope to support one another, laugh with one another, get to know one another, and most importantly, inspire one another.
Being able to help other dyers source yarn is the next step in my yarnie journey and I thank you for your interest in our products. If there is anything I can do, please don’t hesitate to let me know!
